Required Clinical Clerkships
Core Clerkships
- Sub-divided into four 12-week blocks
- Block A: Obstetrics and Gynecology (6 weeks), Pediatrics (6 weeks)
- Block B: Family Medicine (4 weeks), Internal Medicine (8 weeks)
- Block C: Surgery (8 weeks), Specialty Services (Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology) (4 weeks)
- Block D: Neurology (4 weeks), Psychiatry (4 weeks), Emergency Medicine (4 weeks)
Doctoring 2
- Monthly series that utilizes near peer mentoring, narrative medicine exercises, and longitudinal faculty preceptor relationships to process personal and professional experiences over the clerkship year
Clerkship Practicum
- A longitudinal, 7 session curriculum that emphasizes core health systems sciences topics and clinical skills that students can directly apply to the care of their patients throughout their clinical rotations
- Clerkships emphasize management of acute and chronic illnesses across all age groups in both inpatient and ambulatory settings; clinical therapeutics, advanced communication skills, patient safety, structural and social determinants of health, and interprofessional team-based practices are incorporated into all clerkships
- Computerized simulation mannequins and standardized patients used in addition to patients for clinical skills, procedures, and physical exams
- Five major teaching hospitals within walking distance of the school
- Weekly didactics reinforce evidence-based concepts underlying clinical disease in each clerkship
- Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail Grading
